Computers make everything much easier, especially when it comes to calculations, for which they were originally built. Multiplying, subtracting or making other basic calculations can be done with basic tools, which come with any operating system, but it is a completely different matter when it comes to complex calculations and functions. This is where GeoGebra comes in. The application was created for any kind of mathematical or scientific calculations and it is addressed to users of all experience levels, from elementary school to university level. What's more, the application is free for non-commercial use and it is available for all major operating systems.

Getting used to the user interface and to its controls should not be a difficult task. The main windows consists of two panels, for graphs and algebra, but you can bring up more panels, for spreadsheets, construction protocol and others. Depending on which panel is active, you will find different options on a toolbar. For example, if a graphs panel is active, the application will place numerous options at your disposal, for inserting points, drawing lines, segments, angles, circles or ellipses and much more.

When you place a point or create other elements in the graph area, their values will appear in a list, on the Algebra panel. You can right click a listed element to reveal options for renaming them, switching between Polar and Cartesian values, changing their properties and more. The application allows you to edit various properties for each object, including colors, captions, values and so on. What's more, you can add scripts to individual objects, if you wish to make interactive learning material and publish it on the Internet.

GeoGebra comes with other useful tools as well. You can use them to display the relationship between two points or other objects, add text, insert images, draw new shapes freely and more. A probability calculator is available as well, which displays a wide range of distribution information and statistics, based on the values you insert.

Pros

GeoGebra allows you to work with anything from simple calculations to graphs and other advanced calculations. It is addressed to all users, regardless of experience level. The application is free, cross-platform and you can have it up and running in no time.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to address. GeoGebra can help you illustrate and calculate any mathematical or scientific expression without too much effort, regardless if you are an elementary school student or a collage graduate.
