Mathematics, algebra and geometry to be more precise, is what GeoGebra focuses on. This is a free application you can use to learn mathematics or to teach mathematics – at any level, from elementary school to university level. There are lots of introductory and classroom materials to help you get started with the application.

As it is Java-based, GeoGebra can be installed on Windows, MAC OS X, or Linux powered machines. The Windows installation file is close to 10MB in size. Download it, run it, and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will guide you through the installation process. It must be mentioned here that the setup wizard will ask you to choose one of numerous supported languages.

There are several Perspectives to choose from for the application’s user friendly interface: Algebra & Graphics, Basic Geometry, Geometry, Spreadsheet & Graphics, CAS & Graphics. From the Preferences menu you can play with some settings and change the color scheme the application uses.

To help you figure out how to use GeoGebra, the developer posted several tutorials on the application’s official website – tutorials for beginners, tutorials for experts, tutorials for administrators, and references for programmers. All these tutorials should make it easier for you to access GeoGebra’s functionality – as mentioned above, this is an interactive mathematics application designed for learning and teaching. Speaking about learning and teaching, there are also more than 2,400 classroom materials available for download on the application’s official site.

You are free to use, copy, distribute and transmit GeoGebra for non-commercial purposes.

GeoGebra is free, it provides support for numerous languages, it works as advertised, and there are numerous materials for the application that you can download.
